A Canberra man has received the shock of his life while cashing in some winning scratchies, discovering a much larger million dollar prize.

The man had made his was down to the newsagency to cash in the scratchies when the attendant mentioned that they were looking for a division one winner from the previous weekend.

“I got them to print off the winning numbers and I went home and checked my ticket.”

It was there at home where the man discovered he held one of the five division one winning entries from Saturday’s Lotto draw.

“I still can’t believe it!” he exclaimed.

“I don’t know how I feel! I’m still in shock.”

When asked how he imagined life as a millionaire, the Canberra dad said things were about to get a whole lot easier.

“I’m going to have to do a little bit of thinking,” he said.

“It will make life a lot easier and it’s going to be great to be able to help the kids!”

The winning ticket was sold at the NewsXpress at Kippax Fair.

Manager, Douglas Wilson said it is the first division one winning entry the outlet had sold.

“We are all excited for the winner, even though we wish it were us.

“Congratulations to them! We hope they really enjoy their prize.”

The man claims a total division one prize of $1,172,770.07.
