A woman from Canberra’s inner north has been charged with 23 fraud offences following the search of a home on Friday morning.

The 46-year-old from Campbell was arrested during the search, as part of an ongoing investigation into fraudulent activity at a childcare facility in Weston Creek.

The woman has been charged with 23 counts of obtaining property by deception to the value of more than $160,000.

Further investigations are ongoing into the misappropriation of funds which is suspected to be in excess of $480,000.

Police expect to lay additional charges in the coming weeks and do not believe any other people were involved.

Authorities insist the care of the children was not compromised as a result of this woman’s alleged actions.

Police are liaising with Australian Government regulators to assist the childcare centre to continue operating.

The woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.
