Hidden away in a Woden court, a humble takeaway shop has claimed the title of ‘Canberra’s Best Pie’….as voted by you.
Wattle Snack Bar is known for its retro interior, traditional fried favourites and now its pies.
Owner, Keith Lowman said it’s amazing to take number one spot on National Pie Day.
“We’re really stoked, we’re just a little takeaway shop in Phillip and this is a huge honour.”
Canberra’s Top Pies
- Wattle Snack Bar, Phillip
- Spence Family Bakery
- Coyote Catering Café
- Elaine’s Gourmet Pies
- Public Place, Chisholm
- Husk Bakery
- Three Mills Bakery
- Butters Patisseries, Amaroo
- Danny’s Bakery, Narrabundah
The Wattle Snack Bar boasts all the favourites, including Pepper Steak, Steak Diane and a Smokey Pork.
“I always warn people that our Pepper Steak has a kick, it’s not for the fainthearted.” Mr Lowman added.
As well as some of the more exotic flavours such as a Lamb Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken and Chicken Mornay.
However, it’s the traditional Beef and Gravy that keeps most customers coming back for more.
“It’s a really chunky meat pie with lots of our Wattle gravy, we make our own gravy in house.”
You’ll have to get in quick though if you’re keen to take a slice of Canberra’s Best Pie, they’re only made in small batches and they sell out quick.
But Mr Lowman promises, with enough notice, anyone can get what they’re looking for.
“If you ring up about a hour before you’re coming, tell us what flavour pie you want and we’re more than happy to make it for you on the spot.”
“We’ll even put your name on it if you want.” he added.
