The Canberra Theatre has been forced to cancel its upcoming showing of Shrek the Musical.

The decision was made amid changing COVID-19 restrictions affecting the production’s schedule and the ability to tour after the musical’s current season in Brisbane.

Canberra Theatre Centre Director, Alex Budd said it was a difficult decision to make and will come as equally disappointing news for audiences.

“Canberrans are eager to experience more blockbuster musicals at Canberra Theatre Centre and we intend to meet this demand as soon as we are able.”

“We wish the cast, crew, the Queensland Performing Arts Centre, and Gordon Frost Organisation all the best for a successful Brisbane season.”

The Theatre is currently exploring other opportunities to present the show at a later date.

Existing ticketholders will be refunded and will be contacted by Canberra Theatre Centre.
