A pop-up ice skating rink will take centre stage as Canberra’s winter tradition returns from Friday night.

‘Wintervention’ will transform Civic Square over the next two weeks, helping Canberrans celebrate and truly embrace Australia’s coldest capital city.

The event will also see daily music performances, arts and craft, food stalls and markets held across both weekends of the festival.

CEO of the City Renewal Authority, Malcom Snow said the annual event is a chance for locals to get out of their ‘winter bunkers’ and experience what the city has to offer over the colder months.

“No other mainland city around the country has a winter like Canberra with enchanting frosty mornings and snow-covered mountains visible from the city centre.”

Tickets to book a session on the open-air ice-rink are now available online.

This year’s event marks the first ‘Wintervention’ since 2019 after the event was paused last year amid the pandemic.
