As domestic travel increases so too is the competition in our skies.

The first Rex Airlines flight from Sydney will touch down in the Nation’s Capital on Monday morning.

The new service will operate seven return flights per day, with plans for that number to increase should the route prove popular.

With flights starting as low as $99, the airline also hopes to bring more competition to the route between the two cities, going up against QANTAS after Virgin pulled out during the pandemic.

Canberra Airport CEO, Stephen Byron said it’s a big win for the airport, the tourism sector and the city.

“This is a great opportunity for tourism into Canberra but also for Canberrans to go to Sydney and enjoy travelling.”

The first flight to arrive from Sydney is due to touch down just before 8am.
