A man is expected to be charged after crashing his car down a rock wall, leaving behind a trail of damage in Tuggeranong on Wednesday night.

Police were called to reports of the collision along Jim Pike Avenue in Gordon just after 7pm.

Officers found the car on a footpath after it had fallen down the rock wall.

Police believe the vehicle lost control, travelling through a wire fence and clipping a tree and damaging a pedestrian handrail and street sign before coming to a stop.

The driver fled scene, but officer later located him at his Gordon home.

The driver was issued with an immediate suspension notice and further charges are being investigated.

Police are now appealing for witnesses of the crash to come forward by contacting Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
