An 84-year-old man has died in Hospital after being struck by a car in Lyneham last week.

The man was struck by a driver as he was making his way across a pedestrian crossing along Brigalow Street just after 5pm on Friday 18 June.

The man suffered serious injuries as a result and was taken to Canberra Hospital where he passed away on Thursday.

ACT Police Superintendent Corey Heldon said the man’s death is the sixth on ACT roads this year.

“To put that into context, we only had six all together in 2020 so from our perspective – one is too many but having six already this year is quite concerning.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing but the female driver of the car involved is expected to be charged with negligent driving resulting in death.
