It’s a dirty job and someone has to do it but the ACT’s team of ‘Blockage Busters’ have been kept pretty busy over the past few years.
Now, Canberrans are being encouraged to ‘Free the Poo’ as part of a new Icon Water campaign, designed to help reduce the number of blockages in the Territory’s sewage network.
The campaign is hoping to get user to think twice before flushing foreign objects down the dunny with wet wipes the largest contributor to backups in the network.
The utilities provider spent more than $1.7 million in 2019-20 clearing blockages throughout the Nation’s Capital.
Icon Water Managing Director, Ray Hezkial, said the cheeky campaign is hoping to reduce that number this year.
“We’re asking Canberrans to bin their wet wipes instead of flushing them, only the three ‘P’s should be flushed down the toilet – Pee, Poo and toilet Paper.”
Mr Hezkial said the message is pretty simple.
“Help us ‘free the poo’ so it flows [freely] to our treatment plant instead of being blocked up, or worse, flowing back to you.”
