The head of a pink unicorn with a rainbow flowing mane will brighten the skies of the Nation’s Capital when The Canberra Balloon Spectacular returns this weekend as part of the Enlighten Festival.
This year’s event sees the debut of New York-based balloon ‘Allycorn’, the giant pink unicorn, as the festival’s special shaped balloon for 2021.
Allycorn will make her debut on Saturday 6 March as part of day one of the spectacular while it won’t be until Canberra Day on 8 March that she’ll be joined by Canberra’s iconic newlyweds Skywhale and Skywhalepapa for the special one day ‘Breakfast at Balloons’ event.
The launch site for this year’s Spectacular has been moved to the Patrick White Lawns between the National Library and Lake Burley Griffin.
ACT Arts Minister, Tara Cheyne said access to the launch site will require people to preregister beforehand to ensure the event remains complies with coronavirus restrictions.
“The event is still free to attend, registration is required to keep our community COVID-safe.”
“Breakfast, courtesy of the Belconnen Lions Club, will be available each morning, with proceeds of all purchases donated back into the Canberra community. Coffee, Dutch poffertjes and sweet and savoury crepes will also be available for purchase at the launch site.”
The Canberra Balloon Spectacular runs across nine days starting Saturday 6 March with balloons taking to the skies from 6:15am each morning weather permitting.
