Police have seized two firearms during the search of a vehicle in Belconnen in the early hours of Monday morning.

Officers were called to Moulden Court at around 5am after reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

The car was quickly located, with a man was found sleeping in the driver’s seat and the engine still running.

A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a 12-gauge shotgun and a .44 calibre rifle as well as a quantity of shotgun shells.

The man located in the car who was serving a good behaviour bond, has now been charged with unauthorised possession of a firearm, failing to comply with storage requirements, possessing ammunition and unlicensed driving.

He’s due to face court on Friday 15 January.
