Children as young as 5-years-old can now be tested for COVID-19 at an ACT drive through clinic.

The change was announced by Health Minister, Rachel Stephen-Smith on Friday morning.

Previously only children as young as 8 were able to be tested for COVID-19 from a car.

“We’ve had more staff trained in how to test those children between 5 and 8 so now it’s 5 years and older.”

It comes as authorities continue their calls for Canberrans with even the mildest coronavirus symptoms to come forward for testing.

About 2,500 people came forward for a test on Wednesday.

Chief Minister, Andrew Barr said that number simply isn’t high enough.

“The virus is in our community, so it is critical if you have symptoms to get tested as soon as possible.”

Drive through testing is currently available at EPIC, Brindabella Business Park and Kambah.

More information on where and how to get tested can be found online here.
