A Sydney man has been arrested and charged in Queanbeyan following a police chase through the city’s west on Wednesday

Officers from the Monaro district attempted to pull over a Holden Barina that was spotted without a rear number plate along Gilmore Place at about midday.

Instead, the car is allegedly to have driven off launching a short pursuit by police.

Officers say the Barina then attempted to turn right onto Tharwa Road when it hit a telegraph pole before three men ran from the vehicle.

All three were arrested nearby a short time later and taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.

The 26-year-old Sydney man who was driving the car was charged with a string of offences including failing to stop for police and driving recklessly.

The other two men were released without charge.

The driver has been granted bail to appear in Queanbeyan Local Court next month.
