A pro basketballer, fast food founder, a diversity advocate and the co-founder of a hospital are among the Canberrans nominated for the 2022 Australian of the year award.

Four exceptional Canberrans have been nominated in each of the four categories.

The nominees are among 129 people being recognised across all states and territories as part of the program, which began in 1960.

The four finalists from the ACT will be announced next month and will then join the other state and territory recipients as national finalists for the national awards announcement on 25 January 2022.
