Human error is being blamed after an ACT Health text message and email wrongly told quarantining Canberrans that they were free to leave their home on Monday night.

A total of 122 people were due to receive the message on Monday, alerting them that their stay-at-home orders were coming to an end that night.

However, an ACT Health spokesperson said the messages were sent beyond that group and was incorrectly sent to those who are now under the new quarantine orders, introduced for Canberrans returning from Greater Sydney area after Friday night.

“This was due to human error.”

“The error was identified quickly and a follow-up message was sent to all people who received the message in error about 30 minutes later.”

Currently, if you’ve been in Greater Sydney and returned to the ACT since Saturday, you need to quarantine at home for 14 days.

ACT Health said it had reviewed the incident and is putting in place further processes to ensure the mistake doesn’t happen again.
