They’re the people we turn to in times of need, tasked with keeping our city safe and responding to the call for help.

Now the Territory’s Firefighters are being recognised for their continued commitment to the Canberra community.

Tuesday marks St Florian’s Day, the Patron Saint of firefighters, to mark the occasion a special ceremony will be held at the War Memorial thanking the paid and volunteer members of ACT Fire & Rescue, ACT Rural Fire Service and ACT Parks and Conservation firefighters.

This year’s celebration is the first since the devastating 2019-20 bushfire season, where seven firefighters sadly lost their lives while protecting communities around Australia.

ACT Emergency Services Agency Commissioner, Georgina Whealan, has thanked emergency services personnel for their work  and recognised their dedication to go well above and beyond the call of duty.

“We thank our emergency service personnel for their ongoing dedication and commitment to ensure the Canberra community is cared for and protected.”

“My wish is that at the end of every shift, all firefighters get to go home safely.”
