A pungent fruit has turned out the be the source of a smell reported to emergency services as a gas leak in Dickson on Friday morning.
Crews were called to the scene at the Dickson Shops just before midday.
Firefighters spent an hour searching for the leak, when an owner of the unit above the shops advised of the potential smell.
A Durian fruit which was being cut up from within their unit was confirmed as giving off the smell which was originally reported as a gas leak to authorities.
Durian’s are notorious for letting of a strong and pungent odor which can travel for some distance.
Initially, Canberrans were asked to avoid the area as crews searched for the leak.
The Dickson Shops have now been deemed safe and the firefighters have left the scene.
