Canberra will sizzle through its hottest weekend of the year so far, brining the city its first real taste of summer for the season.

Cloud cover is expected to dissipate across the city on Saturday as temperatures climb into the 30’s.

Weatherzone Meteorologist, Esteban Abellán, said the hottest day is looking like it will be early next week.

“The heat will progressively build over the coming days and we’re looking at peaking around Tuesday or Wednesday with temperatures around 33 or 34 degrees.”

The warmer conditions will come as welcome news for many after a cooler and wetter start to the season as a result of the La Nina event currently being experience in Australia.

Mr Abellán said the change is thanks to a high-pressure system moving across the Tasman Sea.

“Over the next couple of days it’s going to bring northerly winds across the region and that sees the temperature rise.”

The warmer summer like conditions are expected to hang around into mid-week before dropping back slightly by next weekend.
