Works are underway to expand the number of nurse-led walk-in centres across the ACT.

The Territory Government will allocate $2 million dollars for feasibility studies into the establishment of four new centres across the city in South Tuggeranong, West Belconnen, The Inner South and North Gungahlin.

Health Minister, Rachel Stephen-Smith said the Government will work closely with local communities to ensure any new centres fit the diverse needs of those areas.

“These centres will build on our existing Walk-In Centres and Community Health Centres to deliver free and convenient public healthcare, where and when Canberrans need it.”

Work on the new walk-in centre in Coombs is also due to be completed by July adding to the city’s existing network.

The funding for the new centre’s is part of the Government’s budget commitments for next month.

Included in the commitment is $10 million dollars for the expansion of outpatient imaging services at the existing Weston Creek centre.
