Construction of the new Queanbeyan Civic and Arts precinct officially gets underway on Wednesday.

The $74 million dollar redevelopment in the city’s CBD will include the build of a central office for council staff, additional retail space, a new library and better linkage to the existing Q Theatre.

The new Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council HQ will be located on the site of the former Council admin building along Crawford Street and will extend in to the Lowe Car Park.

Council said the redevelopment is an essential component of its strategy to transform the CBD.

Brining together QPRC staff into the one building is also expected to free up a number of existing council owned properties throughout the city with the potential for redevelopment.

Constructions is due for completing late next year.
