It seems the attraction of electronic bicycles is picking up speed across the Nation’s Capital.
Local sales of E-Bikes have reported significant growth in recent years, according to retailer 99 Bikes.
It’s thought a change of mindset, during the coronavirus lockdowns, has encouraged people to get outdoors more and enjoy their local surrounds.
Between April and December last year local sales for e-bikes increased by 122 percent.
The Fyshwick store’s Team Leader, Michelle Mordike said the drive in popularity was also helped by the number of Canberrans looking to utilise the city’s cycle network when they were left without a ride.
“During the hailstorm a lot of people decided to replace their cars with e-bikes.”
“We’ve got an awesome cycling network here in Canberra and people commuting and being able to stick to that commuting regime has been a big push.”
Since 2018 local sales have increased 227 percent with the bulk of the that grown recorded in the past 12 months.
