Plastic straws and cotton buds are next in line to be banned for sale or supply in the ACT, as the Territory continues it war on waste.

The ban on the single-use products will come into effect from 1 July this year and will also include oxo-degradable plastics.

However, exemptions will be in place for businesses and healthcare providers to continue supplying plastic straws to people with disability and healthcare needs.

The changes are in addition to the single-use products that have already been banned in the Territory, including plastic cutlery, drink stirrers, polystyrene takeaway food and beverage containers and plastic bags.
