Valentines Day is an opportunity to celebrate romantic AND platonic love. Here at Mix 106.3 we think friendships should also be celebrated, and we’ve curated a list of things you can do to spoil your besties, and the places you can go here in Canberra to make your plans a reality….

  1. A perfect picnic

Celebrate your friendship with a cute picnic date. Fill your basket with takeaway goodies, or go DIY with ribbon sandwiches, snacks and iced teas. Weather permitting, there’s always a lovely view by the grass down on Lake Burley Griffin. If you want to go all out, get in touch with a local business that specialises in picnics, like Canberra Picnics & Pallets Co.

  1. Go for a hike

Here in the nation’s capital we’re blessed with many walking trails. There’s Mount Ainslie, Red Hill, One Tree Hill, Mulligan’s Flat Nature Reserve and so many more. Head out in nature with your besties, enjoy the fresh air, and treat yourself to a coffee afterwards.

  1. Host a games night

Nothing reunites or divides besties than a competitive game of Monopoly. Grab your mates, order some pizza and garlic bread, shuffle the cards and your sorted on Galentines Day.

  1. Take a pilates class

If your group of friends is fitness conscious, a pilates class before or after work might be the way to go. Dress up in your cutest active wear and get those endorphins flowing. Here in Canberra there’s plenty of options when it comes to pilates, like Ground Up Studio, KX Pilates, and Muse Pilates.

  1. Have a Crafternoon

Whether it’s cross stitching sets from Kmart, scrapbooking, or colouring in, getting crafty is a great way for people to unwind and connect. It’s cheap, and your pals will leave with a momento of the evening. Eckersley’s Arts and Crafts in Belconnen has heaps of nifty supplies!

  1. Host a viewing day

If none of the above activities take your fancy, pull out the cushions and chuck on a movie everyone will love. Simple snacks like popcorn, chips and chocolate will make it a fun night for all! If you’re willing to celebrate a couple of days early, or one day later, book into Sunset Cinema for the full outdoor cinema experience.
