Health authorities have confirmed the Delta variant of COVID-19 is no longer circulating in the ACT.

Acting ACT Chief Health Officer, Dr Vanessa Johnston said it’s now been replaced by Omicron and it’s new sub-variant BA-2.

“We certainly haven’t seen the Delta variant in the ACT for some weeks now, that’s not longer circulating, it’s certainly got outpaced by Omicron over the summer period.”

“We’re starting to see an increase in the proportion of our samples come up as Omircron BA-2.”

It comes as daily case numbers increase in the Territory, on Wednesday 1,226 new infections were recorded – the first time daily numbers were higher than 1,000 since mid-January.
