Police are still investigating a suspicious package that was found at the Russian Embassy in Griffith on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Police Officer Peter Crozier said a number of substances were found inside the package.

“One of the substances is not suspicious but the second one we are still doing some testing on.”

While examinations remain ongoing, ACT Police have called for safe protests in the Territory.

The Deputy Chief Police Officer said that if this turns out to be an act of protest against the Russian Government, it’s not the right way to go about it.

“Policing will always support people being able to undertake a lawful protest as long as there is no damage to property and, really importantly, no impact to people’s safety.”

“I understand people are very emotive about this issue and they’re very concerned about it but there is a better way of doing things and this is not it.”
